| Fire dept. may receive $103,128 grant |

By Joel Stottrup The Princeton Fire and Rescue Department may be receiving a $103,128 Fire Act Grant to provide 95 percent of the cost of 800 MHz two-way radios for the department’s vehicles. Princeton Fire Chief Jim Roxbury had originally requested $109,000 in grant money. But he was notified by a Federal Emergency Management Administration specialist that while the grant application has been favorably reviewed, the likely amount would be reduced. Instead of getting $533 per pager in grant money, the city would instead receive $500 per pager. The city would have to provide a five-percent matching share which would total $5,428. Since the city had already designated $50,000 for buying 800 MHz radios in its capital improvement program budget, the city will easily be able to handle its share of the grant match, city administrator Mark Karnowski told the city council last Thursday. Roxbury said the letter he received on the grant looks promising. He explained that he does not know of any other fire department who has ever received such a letter, not ending up with their grant.
Karnowski and the council commended Roxbury for having applied for the money. “It’s a significant grant,” Karnowski said. Comments (1)
