By: Tami Jo Kuehn More than 100 races made the trip to the Princeton Speedway for a full night of WISSOTA Amsoil Dirt Track Series racing. Budweiser sponsored the night of racing action with Kevin Schmidt, Tim Grams, Larry Zeller and J.B. Stortz going home with feature wins. Rod deBernardeaux and Kevin Schmidt battled for first as the Glen Metalcraft Inc. WISSOTA Street Stock feature got underway. Schmidt grabbed the lead with deBernardeaux staying on his bumper. Leon Sorrell and Scott Walker battled for third while Tom Hovind moved into fifth. Sorrell took third and Hovind moved around Walker taking over fourth. Gary Oothoudt spun out on the back stretch catching Cory Rosen and Justin Pogones behind him. The yellow flew and the field was reset. Schmidt was in the lead with deBernardeaux behind him. Sorrell and Hovind battled for the third point as Ryan Kostreba’s car went sideways with four drivers getting caught behind him. The yellow flew and drivers were slowed down. The restart was Schmidt followed by deBernardeaux and Sorrell. Hovind and Ben Rothstein moved up to battle Sorrell for third and the battle went three-wide. As Hovind broke free of the battle Rothstein and Sorrell made contact getting their cars tied together in turn one. The yellow flew and Rothstein was unable to continue racing. After two restarts the running order was Schmidt, deBernardeaux, and Hovind. The leaders ran that same order until the white flag flew. Hovind caught deBernardeaux and tried to take second but deBernardeaux held his line and kept second. Schmidt took the feature win with deBernardeaux, Hovind, Pogones and Rosen claiming the top five spots. The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds were next out to race their feature. Shane Patrin and Stan Thom led the drivers around the track as the green waved. Thom quickly grabbed the lead with Patrin and Tim Grams battling for second, but some cars bunching up in turn two slowed the drivers down. After two restarts Thom was in the lead with Patrin and Grams behind him. Grams quickly claimed second with Jason Vande Kamp grabbing third and Scoot Gill taking fourth. Justin Jones then passed Patrin taking the fifth position. Grams moved in on Thom for the lead and so did Vande Kamp. Vande Kamp and Grams challenged Thom for first and Vande Kamp claimed it. Grams and Thom continued to battle for the second point as Clayton Wagoman moved into fourth. Grams locked in second as Wagoman moved around Thom and took third. Vande Kamp and Grams began to stretch their leads out and quickly began lapping slower cars. Jones, who was running fourth, began to battle Wagoman for third while they drove through lapped cars. As the two lap warning was displayed John Nelson’s car shot up in flames. The yellow was quickly flown as Nelson and emergency workers left the track. Nelson was ok, and the fire was extinguished. The racers were realigned with a green, white, checkered restart in play. Vande Kamp was in the lead with Grams and Wagoman behind him as the Green flew. Vande Kamp rounded turn two and had a car issue stopping his car mid turn. The yellow flew and unfortunately Vande Kamp was not able to race and had to leave the track. With only one lap to go Grams lead the drivers around the track. Wagoman and Jones battled Grams for the lead but Grams held them and took home his first feature win of the 2010 season. Wagoman, Jones, Ryan Studanski and Thom finished out the top five. A slight race order change for the night brought the Ground Support Inc. WISSOTA Modifieds onto the track next to race their feature. Dustin Nelson started on the pole with Tony Proell at his side as the green dropped. Nelson took the lead with Larry Zeller making his way into second. Proell and Clayton Wagoman battled for third as caution came out for debris. The restart order was Nelson with Zeller and Proell behind him. This round Proell took second leaving Zeller and Justin Jones battling for Third. Eric Martini moved into fourth on Jones and Zeller’s bumpers as Mark Blood spun out and the yellow flew. On the restart Nelson was first with Proell and Zeller battling for second. Zeller took second leaving Proell battling Martini for third. Zeller moved in on Nelson for first while Martini grabbed third. Joey Jenson and Dave Cain were on the move and battled fiercely behind Proell for fourth. Martini took over second from Nelson as Jensen and Cain also passed Nelson. Zeller had a straight-a-way lead over the competition while Jensen and Cain moved in on Martini for second with a few laps to go. The race came to an end with Larry Zeller taking the feature win. Martini, Jensen, Cain and Nelson took the top five points. The final feature of the night was for the WISSOTA Super Stocks. Kyle Robideau and Jake Goetze led the drivers around the track until the green dropped. Goetze quickly took the lead and Robideau, Dave Mass, and Josh Anderson went three-wide for second. Anderson came out in the lead taking second and quickly took the lead from Goetze. Goetze and Mike Loomis battled for second with Loomis taking the point. Loomis then moved in on Anderson and took First. Goetze battled Jeremy Snow for third with J. B. Stortz and Chris Wark moving in behind them. Wark and Stortz battled for fifth with Wark getting the point. Snow took over third and quickly maneuvered around Anderson and Loomis and took over the lead. Snow’s luck ran short as the yellow flew for Justin Iverson who had spun out. The cars were reset with Anderson back in the lead. Snow and Loomis set the second row as the green flew. Loomis quickly stole the lead but once again the yellow flew, this time for Donnie Lofdahl who had spun out. The restart was Anderson, Snow and Loomis all battling for first. Loomis moved next to Anderson but got loose and fell back a couple spots. Snow wasted no time and took over first with Anderson falling to second. Wark moved next to Anderson and challenged him for second with Wark grabbing the point. Jon McCain then spun out and again the yellow flew. Snow was first on the restart with Anderson and Wark behind him. Anderson retook second but Wark and Loomis were on his bumper. Loomis moved up and took second putting Anderson in third. Wark, Anderson and Stortz battled three-wide for third around turns three and four. Wark and Stortz broke away from Anderson who was now in fifth. Stortz managed to get ahead of Wark and take third while Wark held fourth. The top drivers began to lap when the yellow was displayed. After two restarts Snow was still in the lead with Loomis and Stortz behind him. As the white flag waved Snow, Loomis, and Stortz went three-wide trying to take the lead. Stortz came out of turn two in the lead and held it until the checkered dropped. Stortz took home another feature win with Snow, Loomis, Wark and Goetze getting the top five points.
