The rain delayed itself long enough for the Princeton Speedway to complete a full show of WISSOTA Amsoil Dirt Track Series racing Friday evening. It was “Ryan’s Race” Night at the speedway and many drivers and fans packed the stands to celebrate the memory of Ryan and what would have been his 25th Birthday. The night was sponsored by Ryan’s Race Team and Family and Kevin Schmidt, Shane Sabraski, J.B. Stortz, and Clayton Wagoman took home trophies for the night. 
 
Ryan Thom was a lover of racing and true believer in good sportsmanship and family time. Ryan was only 15 when he passed away and his family, friends and Ryan’s Race team keep his dreams alive by hosting “Ryan’s Race” night at the Princeton Speedway each year. The night not only memorializes Ryan and all he believed in but also is a celebration of his birthday and his life. Ryan’s Race team consists of two WISSOTA Midwest drivers Steve Alsacker and Stan Thom. Alsacker races #4R, which stands for racing for Ryan and Thom races #2R which stands for to Ryan. There are many others involved in Ryan’s Race team but those two cars are dedicated to Ryan and all he lived for. Ryan’s Race team organizes a night full of fun! There are many raffles, door prizes for fans and drivers, and racing things given away. Drivers in the pits won cash prizes, and gas cards. Fans in the stands won sporting goods, racing prizes, and other things. The highlight of “Ryan’s Race” night is Ryan’s Race were 20 Midwest Modifieds run a 20 lap feature to win cash prizes. It is an Honor for all the drivers who get to participate in Ryan’s Race and for all the fans who are involved in the night.
 
Dan Foss and Kris Macko led the Glen Metalcraft Inc. WISSOTA Street Stocks onto the track for the first feature of the night. As the green dropped, Foss, Macko and Leon Sorrell went three-wide for the lead. Sorrell grabbed the point with Macko and Scott Walker battling for second. Walker took second and Chad Weyer took third throwing Macko into fourth. Walker took the lead from Sorrell as Macko reclaimed third. Weyer now found himself battling Kevin Schmidt for fourth, with Schmidt taking the point. Justin Pogones made his way into fifth as Schmidt took third and Macko was back in fourth. Macko, Pogones and Dan Severson battled for fourth with Pogones getting the spot. Sorrell moved next to Walker and challenged him for the lead, but Sorrell got loose and lot his momentum. Walker kept the lead and Schmidt moved into second. Pogones then took third and Sorrell found himself in fourth. Schmidt worked his way passed Walker and became the new leader. The drivers began lapping slower drivers as the two lap warning was displayed. Pogones was right on Walkers rear bumper as cars bunched up and the yellow flew. The drivers were realigned with Schmidt in the lead. Walker and Pogones battled for second as the white flag flew. Schmidt took the checkered flag making his third feature win in a Row at the Princeton Speedway. Walker, Pogones, Hovind, and Sorrell took the top five points.
 
The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds were next up to race their feature. Lonny Loeschke and Jeremy Nelson battled for the lead as the green flew. Loeschke fell back and Justin Oestreich moved next to Nelson to battle for the lead. Shane Sabraski and Jason Vande Kamp battled for third as Oestreich claimed the lead. Vande Kamp, Nelson and Sabraski went three-wide for second with Vande Kamp taking the spot. Sabraski took third but stayed next to Vande Kamp for second. Sabraski took second and raced Oestreich for the lead. Sabraski made the pass becoming the leader with Oestreich and Vande Kamp close behind him. Justin Jones moved into fourth and moved up on Vande Kamp for third. Vande Kamp slid next to Oestreich for third with Jones also moving in. Jones and Vande Kamp passed Oestreich on both sides putting Oestreich in fourth. Vande Kamp and Jones battled for second when Tom Balluff spun out and the yellow flew. The restart was followed with another caution for a mess of cars in turn two. The restart was Sabraski with Vande Kamp and Jones continuing the battle for second. Vande Kamp moved next to Sabraski for the lead with Jones on their bumpers. Sabraski pulled ahead just enough to lock in his lead. Sabraski continued to pull away and kept his lead until the checkered flag flew. Sabraski took another Midwest Modified feature win with Vande Kamp, Oestreich, Jones and Ryan Studanski finishing as the top five.
 
Donnie Lofdahl and Kyle Robideau took off as the WISSOTA Super Stock feature began. As soon as the drivers got up to speed, the yellow flew and they were slowed back down. They went back to the original line up with Lofdahl on the pole. As the green flew Lofdahl, Robideau and Josh Anderson battled for the lead. Lofdahl kept first with Anderson behind him. Robideau and Dave Mass battled for third but the yellow flew and drivers were slowed down. The restart was Lofdahl with Anderson and John Remington behind him. Anderson kept second with Mass and Remington fighting for third. Anderson then experienced a mechanical issue and went off the side of the track bringing the yellow back out.  Lofdahl was first on the restart but Mass moved next to him. Mass took over the lead and the yellow flew soon after for Justin Haehn who spun out. The restart was Mass, Lofdahl and J.B. Stortz. Chris Wark challenged Stortz for third but once again the yellow flew. Mass led the drivers around the track until the green flew again. Stortz stayed right behind Lofdahl for second while Wark and Mike Loomis battled fourth. Loomis took fourth and moved in on Stortz for third. Stortz kept third and Loomis was battling Wark again for fourth. Stortz got around Lofdahl and took second as Wark took fourth. Lofdahl moved next tot Stortz for second but Stortz held him. Wark moved next to Lofdahl and battled for third. Lofdahl and Wark moved right behind Stortz for second but Stortz began to pull away. Wark took over third as the race was ending. With only two laps remaining Donald Sergent spun out and the yellow flew. The restart would be a green, white, checkered with Mass still in the lead. As the green flew Stortz flew forward and stole the lead with Mass falling to second. Stortz kept up his speed the remaining lap and took the feature win. Mass, Lofdahl, Wark and Loomis took the top five.
 
The Ground Support Inc. WISSOTA Modifieds were up next to race with Matt Sinna and Tony Proell leading the cars. Sinna took the lead as the green flew with Clayton Wagoman and Justin Jones battling for second. Wagoman took second followed by Jones and Shane Sabraski. The yellow then flew and slowed the drivers down. After two restarts the race got underway with Sinna in the lead. Jones and Wagoman continued the battle for second with Wagoman taking it again. Sabraski and Proell battled for fourth right behind Jones. Sabraski and Proell moved to the sides of Jones and battled for third. Sabraski came out in front and took over third. Jones and Proell stayed behind Sabraski while Wagoman moved in on Sinna. Sabraski quickly caught Wagoman and battled for second. Wagoman and Sabraski made contact while battling but both kept going and Wagoman flew to the front and took the lead. Sabraski and Sinna battled for second with Sinna keeping the position. Wagoman stretched out his lead as Sabraski got around Sinna and took second. Wagoman was in Cruise control and won the modified feature. Sabraski, Sinna, Jones and Eric Martini took the top points.
 
The final race of the night was Ryan’s Race. Ryan’s Race. The race was for cash only, no points, but the winner received $1000.00! The 20 drivers were selected as the top finishers from the heats, top two from the Consi, and two random draws. The following drivers raced in Ryan’s Race: Dave Mass, Eric Oestreich, Shane Sabraski, Justin Jones, Ryan Studanski, Jason Vande Kamp, Tim Grams, Patrick Sobolik, Ryan Bowers, Jason Hall, Clayton Wagoman, Jordan Morrell, Tom Balluff, Paul Fontecchio, Jeremy Nelson, Brandon Hines, Justin Oestreich, Lonny Loeschke, Corey Eystad, and Denis Czech. The race ran with only three cautions and Shane Sabraski took the checkered and the big payout!

Ryan’s Race night is a night that brings tears to your eyes, and makes you appreciate all you have in life. It’s a huge event and extremely successful every year. Thank you to Ryan’s Race Team for organizing the event and being so generous every year. Regular WISSOTA racing will resume next Friday at 7pm.
